Shaw Academy Review and Cancellation Process
This is my personal experience with Shaw Academy.
Shaw Academy, which is now upskillist, founded by James Egan, a Dublin-based online education course provider, enrollees nearly 10 million students this year as it estimates turnover hitting over 50 million.

I was looking for education for a graphic design course online. I saw it on Facebook as AD. What I thought about them as it seems like they are legit. As I said, I think they are legit. They offer the course for free for the first 4 weeks and the next month they will going to bill me.
Below is the exact ad I saw.

I signed up with them thinking of getting some certification from them. Then I included my bank details thinking that it is easy to cancel and that was their offer. Without reading any testimonials or reviews about them, I was able to put my details and even scheduled a class.
When I was scrolling on the internet, I found a few reviews about Shaw Academy which is saying negatively. And my intuition kicks in to cancel the subscription. I think it is not the right course for me at this time.
Cancellation Process
So I headed to the website and straight to membership status and look at how to cancel their course.
At first, I thought it was easy and it seems like you can cancel it anytime. Then they setup or program the cancellation process as they want you to keep them as their active students. To keep you from canceling, they offer to lower the price and give more video classes. But I determined to continue to end. But, on the last page, you will need to call the number given to confirm the cancellation which I did.
I received an email confirmation that my membership was canceled. — That’s I what thought.

After a month, I received a bank notification that I was charged by Shaw Academy. I call my bank about it. They still charged me even though I already canceled their course.

I was scammed and that is the shortest way of saying it.
I made a complaint to the bank and fortunately I get my money back but my membership is still active.
I read more about them and found some people who are victims of their scheme.
These are the few people who open up about this kind of fraudulent activity. Seek help if you need it.

Lesson learned
Try to research the products or services that you are trying to buy. Watch product reviews or testimonials about it. It is better to have prior knowledge than regret it after. Thank God, the bank is very accommodating of my request for a refund. This is not only the Shaw Academy scandal but beware, there are more people who are trying to get money out of you. Be vigilant and be informed.
